 Dare Your Friends! Minimize

So, you've taken the dare to do the triathlon.  Now it's time to dare your family & friends!  We are printing dare cards, and will have them available at several locations.  (more on this coming soon).

For now, you can download the cards to print & cut yourself.  Just print on the front and back on card stock paper.  Or, if you really need a supply for the perfect event, send us a note at AdventurePursuit@hotmail.com and we'll make sure you get what you need.

Keep a stack of cards handy and hand them out to friends.  Make sure they get more than one so they can dare their friends too!

We also have a poster that you can download and post up at work, the gym or your favorite hangout!

Thanks for helping to spread the word!  If you haven't realized it yet, it's fun to help people set & reach new goals - especially when it comes to fitness!

Race News

Race day is the first Saturday in July, but join the fun and camp out with us at North Bend Friday night! It’s not your ordinary triathlon – you’ll be running & biking in the trails, and kayaking in the lake at North Bend State Park, in Cairo, WV. We offer races for EVERYONE!!!

  • McCarter Chiropractic Mud, Sweat, and Chaffed Buns Triathlon
(4.25 mile run, 4 mile paddle, 6 mile mountain bike)

  • St. Joseph's Extreme Torture Challenge Triathlon

Level 2 - (Pee Wee: 100 yard paddle with an adult, 200 yard bike on gravel & pavement, and 100 yard run)
You’ll love the new venue at North Bend. All of the race courses, from beginner to extreme have been improved. Kayaking through the trees in the new lake at North Bend is really something to experience. We’ll also have maps for the trails in advance, so you can run through the course prior to race day. The new “Athletes’ Village” campground will have a beautiful scenic overlook of the start/finish line and the lake.

We are also putting a lot of extra money into our course markings this year but our main problem still remains. Folks tear down our signs, but you will be given a map again this year so you have a back-up to the markings. It will be your responsibility to stay on course. We will have punch points again.

This year, the first 100 paid entries get a T-shirt, meal, massage and also a pass to North Bend’s pool to shower and swim, courtesy of North Bend.

THERE IS A MANDATORY PRE-RACE MEETING THIS YEAR.
You must attend either the meeting on Friday evening at 7:oo pm or Saturday morning before each race. Check the entry form for exact times.

Lodging

Camp with us in Athletes’ Village! All campers who reserve a site through us receive a pool pass whether they are racing or not. We also have lodge rooms reserved for the event. They are a 2-night minimum and $75 a night. You MUST tell them you are with the triathlon when you call or they will tell you they are sold out. Their rooms sell out 2 years in advance! See the registration form for details.

darecards_rotate.gif Race Promotion

Over the years, we found the best way to get more people to challenge themselves to race, is by word of mouth (or brute force). We hope you can help us make this a bigger event and encourage your family and friends to participate. Just forward this email! You can also print out posters for your work or school bulletin board online here: Posters.

We are a non-profit organization and this event is our only fund-raiser for the year. We work to make adventure available to everyone and specialize in recreation for the mentally and physically challenged. Without this event, we could not remain in business. Your participation and promotion is most appreciated!

Volunteers!

We are always looking for volunteers. If you know of anyone who can help us out that day (7/7/07), please let us know. We will feed them and give them a t-shirt. Just email us at AdventurePursuit@hotmail.com Thanks!

Other Weekend Activities

We have brought back Groove Project for our Saturday evening entertainment for all! This is an African Drumming group and when they get started folks flock to the bonfire to find out what is going on. They will perform from 7 -8 pm and then from 8-10 pm Roots and Rhythms will pass out up to 200 instruments so that everyone can join in. It is worth a weekend at North Bend just to participate in this if for no other reason. We hope you plan to relax with us Saturday evening after the race. Over the years, I have found it to be the most magical part of the weekend. grooveproject.jpg
laby.jpg We also will have a labyrinth (meditative walking path) at the park this year. There is more information on our website. Muhammad Ali use to walk these before a big fight to center himself for competition.
Training!

The Adventure Pursuit Clubhouse in Parkersburg, WV will be open for training every Friday night up to the race beginning May 11, 2007. Join us for kayaking lessons, mountain biking techniques, indoor rock wall climbing, or just relax by the river. Free for Adventure Pursuit members, or $10 per person for the daily membership that goes toward the annual $60 membership fee. We encourage you to bring your family & friends. Find directions here: Directions .

If you got this from a friend, and are not on the Adventure Pursuit email list, you can sign up here: Email Signup, and check out the Training & Event Calendar. There are groups that get together to train weekly – you can join one, or lead a new one!

Sponsors!

Without our wonderful sponsors, this event couldn’t happen. Our many thanks to all of them!

Race Name Sponsors: St. Joseph’s Hospital, McCarter Chiropractic and Texas Roadhouse.

Additional Sponsors: North Bend State Park, Stonewall Marketing, Woodcraft, Steve Reger, Roberts Family Photography, Vienna Bike Shop, Momentive, Simonton Windows, North Bend Outfitters, Pressley Ridge, Ritchie Co Emergency Services, REACT, Shiloh Trail riders, Jackson Kelly.

We hope to see you this year! Please let us know if you have any questions, comments or suggestions! As you may notice by the signature block, I have partners in planning this year. Nancy Miller has done the race for years and signed on to help manage it with me. Amanda Williams, also a triathlete, is our volunteer manager. What a blessing that has been. It has given me time to focus on the race course while they take over many other duties. You will see some changes this year as a result and we really do want your suggestions and comments. You'll find all the race information at www.RunBikeKayak.com. We also have a message board: Meeting Place Discussion Forum to share your thoughts or just email us. We would love to hear from you.
